The self-propelled combine harvester has a central main engine. There is a front cutting mechanism and an inclined conveyor for the cut material. Above and parallel to the inclined conveyor (2,3) there is a drive shaft (10,12) coupled with the main engine via a change gearbox (9). There is an adapter frame (13) at the front end of the inclined conveyor (2,3) for the connection of a field cutter (15) driven by the main motor via the drive shaft (12).
