The gyratory rock crusher has a fabricated housing (25) bolted to a foundation (28) through it lower flange (27). A drive sheave (51) at one side is connected to a horizontal shaft (59) carrying a bevel pinion (55). This meshes with a wheel (56) which drives the rotor (37) through an eccentric coupling (68). The hardened wear resistant surface of the rotor cooperates with a conical fixed lining (42). Rock to be crushed is deposited in a hopper (242) at the top, broken fragments being carried away on a suitable conveyor below.
