The snap action switch is intended for household equipment where frequent operation can be expected and also where contacts may get dirty. The snap action has a plunger carrying contacts operated by unequal length springs so that a sideways contact cleaning changeover results. The switch housing (3) carries two pairs of fixed contacts (1,2) above and below the changeover contacts (10) on the spring (7.8) loaded carrier (4). When the central plunger (5), releases under base coil spring (6) pressure, its upward movement tensions the springs (7,8), connecting it to the central switch bar (4). The tensioned springs (7,8) snap the switch bar over to the second set of contacts (1) moving the bar sideways in the process to clean the contacts (1,10) upon impact. The difference in angles of the two springs (7,8) to the points (9) where they are connected to the switch bar (4) exceeds 20 per cent.
