The particle generator produces a stream of solid particles which are then carried along by a flow of gas in order to measure the rate of flow by means of the Doppler effect (laser beam). The solid being converted into fine particles is placed as a powder on a first electrode lying beneath a second electrode. A spark is passed by electrical discharge from one electrode to the other through the powder. The first electrode may consist of a disc and the second electrode may be numerous radial wires. Each wire is selected by a rotary distributor driven by a motor.
