The vibratory ring tumbler comprises an annular trough (9) in which the workpieces (19) move (y), together with the abrasive material (18), from a lower level (B) along an incline (11') to a higher level (B') after which they return (11") to the lower level. The upward incline extends over 180 deg. of the trough and is followed by a downward incline (11") extending over the next 180 deg. so that the work (19) is not subjected to a sudden drop as it travels around. On completion of the operation, the work is pref. removed via a segment-shaped sieve (15) which can be rotated so that its entry (16) meets the level (B') whilst its exit end (17) leads to an outlet (13).
