The particle size distribution of a dust sample is determined by suspending the sample homogeneously in a carrier liq. and by measuring during the sedimentation of the particles in a measuring column the static pressure along the height. The sedimentation height is subdivided into several (four) sections for which the integral pressure, referred to the top zero point, is scanned in a given sequence. This produces the curve for the pressure profile over the sedimentation distance which indicates the size consist. This method creates a fast, accurate and reproducible measurement of the particle size distribution of dust samples. It is suitable for a wider range of size consists than conventional methods.
