Cyano-substd. mono azo dyestuffs (I) are cyanophenylazo- aniline cpds. of the formula (I) is new (in which X1 is H, Cl, Br, CN or NO2. X2 is H, Cl, Br, CN or Me. X3 is H or Me. X4 is Cl, Br, CN, NO2 or Me. R1 is opt. CN-, 1-4C-alkoxy-, 1-4C-alkoxycarbonyl (oxy)-, phenoxy- or phenyl-substd. 1-4C alkyl, 3-5C alkenyl or A-OCOR3. R2 is H, Me, Et, 1-4C alkoxy, Cl or Br. R3 is (Y)m-Q-O- or (Y)m-Q-NR4-; Q is a benzene ring; R4 is H or 1-4C alkyl; Y is Cl, Br, 1-4C alkoxy or 1-4C alkyl; m is 0,1,2 or 3. A is 2-6C (oxy) alkylene). Pref. X1 is H, Cl, Br or CN; X2 is H, Cl or Br; X3 is H; X4 is Cl or Br; R1 is opt. CN- or 1-4C-alkoxy-substd. alkyl; R2 is H or Me; R3 is (Y)m-Q-NH; Y is Cl or Me; m = 0 or 1). In particular, X1 is H, Cl or Br; X2 and X3 are H; R1 is opt. CN-substd. 1-4C alkyl; R2 and X4 are as above; R3 is PhNH. (I) are specified for dyeing (semi)synthetic fibres (e.g. cellulose acetates, polyamides, and esp. polyesters). They give strong dyeing with good fastness to light, wetting and thermofixing.
