The method produces crowned tooth gear wheels, with the extent and shape of contact reflections determined in advance. The gear wheel (6) has teeth (5) with the flanks (7) crowned to an optional curve longitudinally. The shape of the crowning depends on the required contact image (8), but usually it has a shape of an ellipsis with a horizontal major axis. The gear wheel is produced by a master wheel on which the required shape of crowning are obtained by grinding. The master wheel thus produced is used as a drop forging die for the production of the actual gear wheels.
