The furnace is particularly intended for the incineration of refuse such as old tyres, waste oil, oil sludge etc. It is of small size and has a combustion chamber closed by a door and a flue duct for the combustion gases. Slots (10) are formed in the flue duct (9) for afterburning. A water injector (11) is preferably mounted between the flue duct and the combustion chamber (1), typically in the form of a pipe (12) with perforations (13), and wound in a spiral. The pipe ends at the top and bottom are connected to a water tank (15). Control valves (14,16) can be mounted at each end of the pipe.
