The training system has a golf ball (17) attached by a plastic cord to the end of an arm (14). The arm is pivoted at its upper end to a collar (12) mounted on a verticil rod (1). The rod has an external thread and the collar an internal thread. The collar travels up the rod when the golf ball is struck. The distance travelled by the collar up the rod is shown on a scale and is proportional to the force with which the ball was struck. Alternatively, the thread may be omitted and the number of revolutions executed by the collar around the rod may be counted by an appropriate device. The rod is fitted to a stable base (7). Electronics include counters operated by light impinging on photodetectors.
