New storage-stable basic fodder and foodstuff consists of (a) plant materials such as chopped, dried vegetables or lucerne green meal with seaweed, and (b) starch or cereal flour with a carbohydrate content of ca 70-80%. Pref. formulations contain 3-70% plant materials and 30-97% starch or cereal flour. The prod. is produced by (a) comminuting the vegetable material and adjusting the moisture content (either by pressing out excess water when the fresh plant material is used, or by adding water when dried plant material is used) to give a paste or mash consistency, (b) mixing the prod. with the undigested starch or with cereal flour having a carbohydrate content of ca 70-80%, and (c) densifying the resulting prod. with introduction of saturated steam in an extruder, expanding, chopping the extruded string into short lengths by means of a rotating knife, drying, sorting and packing. Readily digestible, stable feedstuff or foodstuff basic material which is almost completely utilised as nutrient and which contains all substances necessary for nutrition is obtd.
