Flash smelting cyclone for fine powder, esp. ore concentrate - which is mechanically accelerated by star feeder so it flows at high velocity into cyclone

Before the powder flows through a tangential inlet into the upper part of the cyclone it is mechanically accelerated, so it flows at high velocity either together with, or separately from, high speed reaction gases which are also fed into cyclone. The pref. plant includes a tangential inlet pipe fitted with a star feeder contg. an impeller wheel driving the powder at high speed along pipe. In the wall of cyclone below pipe is a tangential inlet pipe for reaction gases; and pipe may be fitted with a branch pipe via which gases are fed into the star feeder and thus into pipe together with the powder. Powder or ore concentrate can be fed at a desired high velocity into the cyclone; even damp flotation concentrates can be accelerated by the star feeder.
