The magnetron, with a ring (1) rotating inside an annular channel inside a stator (6), has the ring formed by a number of adjacent permanent magnet dipoles (3,4). These are enclosed by the windings of one or more exciter coils fed with excitation current. The stator is formed by a permanent magnet block, and the ring rotates in a vacuum, and is supported in a frictionless manner. The advantage of this arrangement is that the electrical energy can be stored, e.g. surplus current from fossil fuels, wind or water power is collected and delivered as required.
