The drill is particularly intended for drilling a deep bore and comprises a shank (12) and a drill head (13). The forward end of the shank is provided with an intermediate piece (15) with good brazing characteristics for securing to the head. The interface between the intermediate piece and the head may be flat. The piece may be shaped (14) to fit on the shank such as to prevent relative rotation. It preferably also has good brazing characteristics relative to the shank material. The piece may be solid and provided with a longitudinal bore (27) aligned with a bore (28) in the head.
