The chain drive is for use in a dirty environment, or for use in rough terrain without protection. It has a wide spacing between the chain links and the drive teeth, and the sprocket holes between the teeth are deepended to prevent any collected dirt from fouling the chain. The sprocket wheel is narrow w.r.t. the width of the chain with the thrust on the chain providing a self centering action. The drive operates at a set ratio, without danger of dirt layers causing the chain to ride up over the retaining flanges.
