The gas insulated safety switch for high voltages consists of a cell containing a fuse (3) and with a carrying handle (10) on top. The fuse is retained between an upper tube (5) and lower tube (8) inside a gas filled chamber (2) formed by an external metal sheet (1) with a connection at the bottom for a resilient tube (12) for the gas supply. The handle is mounted on a removable cover (9) with an insulator (18) attached to its underside, enclosed by the upper tube. One conductor (15) passes through the metal wall (1) to a junction point between the two tubes, and a second conductor (14) passes through an end cap forming the bottom of the lower tube terminating inside a hollow right angle part of this cap sealing around an opening through the bottom of the wall.
