Sintered steel components with wear resistant coating - of austenitic structure contg. manganese sulphide and providing emergency bearing properties

The coating possesses an austenitic structure contg. sulphides; and the sulphide concn. in the coating is pref. at least equal to the sulphide concn. in the core of the component. The coating pref. contains 0.3-5.0% S, whereas the core contains from below 0.3% to 5.0% S. The sulphide in the coating is pref. MnS. The pref. component has a coating with a compsn. corresp. to that of austenitic manganese steel contg. MnS; and is pref. made from a mixt. contg. iron powder and sulphur. During sintering, austenite formers, esp. Mn, are diffused into the surface of the component. The austenic coating contg. MnS permits the component to function as a plain bearing with antifriction properties if an emergency occurs.
