摘要
The lamp bulb consists of a thin, hermetically-sealed transparent tube (3), which includes a reservoir (4) with a much larger vol. than tube (3); and one electrode (1,2) is sealed in each end of tube (3). The bulb (3,4) is filled with a noble gas creating a discharge between electrodes (1,2), and contains a substance (5) emitting an atomic spectrum line. A pref. bulb consists of a U-tube (3), of which the base forms reservoir (4); and the noble gas filling is at 0.5-20 torr, esp. Ar at 2-10 torr. Substance (5) can pref. evaporate, and is a metal, e.g. Cd, As, Se, Zn or Hg; or a halide, e.g. PbI2, Cu2I2, MgI2, or other cpds., e.g. GaAs. The tube and reservoir (3,4) can pref. be heated. Very sharp spectral line profiles are obtd. in strong magnetic fields.
