Two castings are made in a mould using a single downstick, which is connected to the castings by runners. The assembly of castings complete with the runner system rests on a wagon moved along a track so it is below a bridge carrying several pairs of clamps. Two pairs of clamps move the two castings in opposite directions while a third clamp holds downstick, so the runners are broken off the two castings in one operation. The two castings are then transported to the next process operation. The pref. machine consists of an overhead frame carrying a driven wagon, in which a bridge is driven vertically via a hydraulic cylinder; bridge carries several clamps.
