The keyboard assembly is for a diatonic or chromatic accordion and comprises rows of key buttons, each having a head and a shank, which project through a top cover. These operate on the free ends of two-armed pivoted valve operating levers. The assembly is enclosed by a bottom cover and front rim. The buttons are integral with and/or securable to the levers such that each of their axes is at an angle to a perpendicular on the top cover or coincides with this perpendicular. This permits assembly either as a keyboard with stepped button rows or with the rows in a common plane.
