Nuts esp. cashew nuts prepared for husk removal - by revolving cutters producing grooves of defined depth in husk

Nuts conveyed between two belts are treated and processed by automatically singling out and orienting the nuts in transport devices, then feeding them between the two belts, where revolving discs produce one or more continuous grooves in the nut shell of a depth less than or equal to the thickness of the shell. Pref. the singling out and orienting device operates by vibration. The vibration intensity may regulate the conveying speed. The upper and lower belts pref. travel at higher speed than the vibrating transport speed. Used partic. for cashew nuts, also for coconuts etc., where an undamaged kernel has twice the value of a damaged one. Appts. is reliable, produces only the required depth of cut, and requires minimum maintencance, being therefore suitable for use in underdeveloped countries.
