The security circuit has a switch (11) allowing a load (13) to be connected across the voltage supply controlled via an amplifier (9) by the output of a signal receiver (7). The latter is located within the passenger compartment so that it is only accessible when the automobile has been opened. The receiver responds to a coded signal received from a hand-held RI transmitter (1). Pref. the receiver has a photodetector (5) and a decoder and/or amplifier which are spaced apart from one another. The load (13) connected to the supply by the switch (11) may comprise a de-icing circuit, a heating circuit independent of the engine, or a pre-warming circuit for the plugs in a diesel engine.
