The switch operated by acceleration or impact has a frame (10) with a vertical arm (14) formed as a spring steel strip which operates with control button (15) of a conventional microswitch (13). The arm is suspended from an overhead arm (12) and the microswitch is mounted on a lower arm (11) forming part of the frame. The arm carries a weight (16) fitted with a securing screw (17) so that its height can be adjusted to control the sensitivity of the arm. After the switch has been operated, the return movement of the arm can be sufficient to restore the control button to its original position. In another form, the arm can carry a magnet so that it is spaced above a Hall sensor, the switch being operated when the magnet is swung away by the movement of the arm. The switch may be used for a vehicle impact operated device.
