Variable-speed, single-phase motor - uses divided auxiliary winding, achieving higher starting torque at low speeds

The motor has an auxiliary winding on its stator divided into two parts. Both parts are used for the higher speed but only one for the lower speed. Each part is divided per pole pair into two zones 180 degrees elec. in opposition and each extending over 50 to 75 degrees electrically. The first part of the main winding consists - per pole pair - of coils located in zones displaced spatially by 90 degrees electrically between the zones of the auxiliary winding and extending 50 to 75 degrees electrically. The second part of the main winding consists - per pole pair - of two groups of coils located in the four zones remaining between the zones of the auxiliary winding and the first part of the main winding.
