Water-soluble alkali metal silicate prodn. by melt process - with preheating of one reagent, pref. with process waste gas heat, before mixing and melting

In the prodn. of water-soluble alkali metal silicates (I) from SiO2 and suitable alkali metal cpds. (II) by the melt process, one of the 2 reagents is preheated using the heat energy in the process waste gases and/or from an outside source, then the 2 are mixed homogeneously and transferred to the melt process. The preheating temp. is such that the mixt. is below the m.pt.of (II). It is pref. to preheat sand as SiO2 and mix this with an alkali metal carbonate. There is an overall energy saving, esp. if the waste gas heat is used.
