Automatic cut=out device for automobile engine - responds to stored underpressure obtained from engine to initiate cut=out and automatic restarting

The cut-out device (2) operates when the engine is idling or during freewheeling and uses a detected under-pressure value fed to a store (4). A monitor (5) uses the stored to operate a cut-out switch for the engine (1) when the stored value drops below a given min. threshold. The monitor (5) may also be used to supply a subsequent signal for re-starting the engine (1) when the stored under-pressure value then exceeds the min. threshold. Pref. the underpressure device (3) feeding the store (4) comprises a pump driven by the engine or a reception duct projecting into the air intake line of the engine (1). The store (4) feeds the stored under-pressure to a number of loads, e.g. a clutch servo power braking servo etc. The under-pressure monitor (5) is coupled to the cut-out switch (2) by a signal line with a manual switch pref. included for over-riding the cut-out. The device is used to improve fuel economy.
