Producing high flushing pressures in filter sectors - by aligned apertures permitting flow into one sector only

Filters or other appts. for treating water and which periodically undergo reversed flow for flushing the clogged filter material are divided into sectors by means of partitions. Access to these sectors is through two concentric apertured sheets movable relative to each other. In one position, for normal operation, these sheets permit equal access to all sectors, but in a second reversed-flow position used for flushing, only the apertures leading to one sector at a time are left free, causing a considerable increase in flushing fluid pressure. The apertures sheets are rotated manually or mechanically until all the sectors have been flushed. Used with appts. for cleaning or chemically treating drinking water, bath water, waste water, etc. The high pressure produced and desirable for fluidising the filter material etc. would otherwise require stronger pumps and piping.
