An illuminated spirit level - which can also be used as an emergency light - enables measurements to be made easily in dark corners and rooms and has a light switch operated when the level is placed on the measurement surface. Illumination is provided for two spirit levels from two 6 volt lamps. Both lamps are powered from a battery made up of four 1.5V cells. The switching is performed by pressure switches, one on each side of the level. The battery pack is inserted in the bottom of the level housing and is covered by a lid. The lamps are placed next to their respective levels and have an opening for replacement. The arrangement can be fitted retrospectively to any level with a hollow body.
