Explosion-proof electrical substation - has relief duct for pressure wave extending between flat concrete roof and outer pitched roof

The sub-station, made of pre-fabricated concrete, has a flat roof (11) also made of concrete and securely attached to the building walls (10). The flat roof (11) is covered by a pitched or gabled outer roof (12) and incorporates an opening (14) for relieving the pressure wave resulting from an explosion. The opening (14) is surrounded by a pre-fabricated concrete duct (15) secured by attached to the outside of the flat roof (11) and extending vertically as far as the outer roof (12) where it is covered by a hinged cover panel (16) which is forced open by the press wave. Pref. the outside of the cover panel (16) has the same surface covering as the remainder of the outer roof (12). Alternatively, the relief duct (15) projects through the outer roof (12) and has a horizontal overhanging cover plate and side outlet openings below the latter pref. covered by a wire grid. The sub-station is designed for effective pressure relief while presenting an aesthetic appearance blending with surrounding buildings.
