Pin-type suspension insulator - of glass fibre reinforced plastics with silicone rubber ribbed tube and two clamp sleeves

The connecting fitting for a suspension insulator of the pin type consists of a clamping device at each end of the glass-fibre reinforced plastic rod. Each device includes a longer conical split sleeve and a shorter conical split sleeve which are in one piece, joined by a deep V-groove so that each sleeve can be clamped individually around the rod, which has a stepped end for the second sleeve. The two sleeves fit into a metallic outer sleeve with a female taper bore and a cylindrical thread for engagement in a metal bell with a suspension hook and an apron. A ribbed protective tube, surrounding the plastic rod, is pref. made of silicone rubber. Such an insulator has a much higher tensile strength and holding force than conventional types.
