The snow wheel for improved traction of a pneumatic-tyred wheel in snow, sand or mud incorporates segments attached to the standard wheel to form a secondary wheel with coarse resilient perimeter teeth (7). The segments (1,6) are attached to a base plate (19) fixed to the standard wheel rim. A serrated rack (16) and fixing bolts (10) permit radial adjustment of the segments and retraction when not in use. The rolling diameter of the segments is smaller than that of the inflated tyre, which remains in position.
