The mechanism is intended for re-aligning the body or chassis of a damaged motor vehicle (1 or 11). The vehicle is secured on a re-aligning bench (4) and the distorted portion is bent back into its normal shape by a power unit (6) via e.g. a chain (7) secured to this portion. The bench and the power unit, which is carried by a base frame (2), are rotatably arranged relative to one another. The bench is rotated relative to the frame (2) about a central vertical axis (M) on a bearing (3) between the base frame and bench.
