Stereoscopic colour TV system compatible with existing equipment - uses two luminance and two chrominance signals and third differential luminance and chrominance signals

The t.v. signals of the syste- consist of luminance and chrominance signals. For stereoscopic colour t.v. two luminance and two chrominance signals are generated, i.e. one for each observer's eye. The first chrominance and luminance signal is transmitted to the receiver. In addition a third luminance or chrominance signal is transmitted, these signals representing the h.f. difference between the two luminance and chrominance signals. In the receiver the second luminance and chrominance signals are recovered from the first and third luminance and chrominance signals. From the first two derived chrominance and luminance signals are formed signal trains for each observer's eye and applied to the electron guns (red, blue, green) of a colour c.r.t. Through excitation of the phosphor particles of the colour image screen two partial images are generated, each consisting of a half image.
