Overvoltage arrester with series active part housings - has separated housing parts, each with front safety valve with connecting valve plate

The two housing parts (11,21) of an overvoltage arrester are connected in series and fitted vertically as a column. They contain active parts (30,40) whose connection (50) is insulated against the housing parts. The connector is simply protected against air humidity and dirt. The housing parts are separated also for explosion protection and have a safety valve on their front sides. Each valve has a valve plate (12,22) in the form of a cover plate, which also retains a bushing for the connector. The system is advantageously formed by small, easily transportable unit and provides a homogeneous voltage distribution along its active part, even in dirty conditions, thus giving a high operational security. The valve plate is made of insulating material and may be in the form of a lever, pressed against the respective housing part by a spring (14,25).
