The switching system for connecting the windings of a three-phase transformer into star or delta formation has a drive shaft (2) outside the switch-gear housing (10) controlling three switch sections (1). The drive shaft carries three right-angle drives (3) for three parallel shafts (4) each alongside a switch section. The continuous rotation is converted into a switching movement by a Maltese-cross mechanism (5) to operate the switch sections and the phase selector. In an alternative, the external drive shaft is connected by a right angle drive with a single shaft inside the housing connected to the first switch section and to the phase selector, with drive extensions for the other two switch sections. Another drive arrangement has only two switch sections.
