The plate includes an insulating material mounted on both sides of the zone at which a knife or other device will peel the deposited metal off the plate; and material is cored in holes passing through the plate so the material is securely anchored to the plate. Material is pref. located near the top of the plate (1) at one edge or in the middle. The pref. machine for stripping the deposit off includes several pairs of knife blades, each pair being operated by a work cylinder, so the deposit on both sides of several plates can be simultaneously removed in large scale electrolytic refining.
