The piston compressor includes a circular valve plate (8) which is located between the valve seat plate (10) and a coaxial and parallel retaining plate (9). The axial movement of the valve plate (8) is damped by coil springs which are recessed in the retaining plate (9). The edge of the retaining plate (9) where it makes contact with the valve plate edge is provided with an inclined flat (alpha). The flat thus provides a parallel impact area for the valve plate contact.
