Wool- or wool-contg. textile finishing takes place in aq. media in the presence of or with N-free, acyclic acetals, (I), as aldehyde-dissociating, crosslinking cpds. (I) are esp. glycol-acetals of lower aldehydes, partic. HCHO. Pref. (I) are diacetal derivs. of HCHO in which at least one acetal gp. is an opt. etherified ethylene-glycol- or diglycol residue. (I) are used esp. in dyeing and/or bleaching. (I) have a protective activity on wool. The treated textiles have an improved hand. Level dyeings are obtd.
