1506014 Vacuum operated bottle filling head SEITZ-WERKE GmbH 21 Feb 1975 [25 Feb 1974] 7279/75 Heading B8T A vacuum operated bottle filling head comprises a suction tube 19 which has an enlarged inlet end 20 forming a valve for a movable liquid supply tube 18 and which, although continuously connected to vacuum, only draws in air through its inlet 21 during the filling operation and immediately before and after such operation. To fill a bottle it is raised against a seal 26 which has the narrow upper part of its bore wider than movable liquid supply tube 18. The seal rises with rods 23 such that atmospheric air is drawn in via the top of the seal bore and suction tube inlet 21. Ultimately the seal engages shoulder 15 to raise the liquid supply tube 18 against spring 17 such that tube 19 sucks up air from the bottle and the tube 18 is lifted from valve 20 to allow liquid into the bottle. Upon withdrawing the bottle the liquid supply tube 18 first descends against the valve 20 and atmospheric air is again drawn into the suction tube 19 to expel any residual liquid into reservoir 10. Further lowering of the bottle causes seal 26 to reclose suction tube inlet 21 whereby the overall quantity of air drawn through tube 19 (and thereby the risk of infection to the liquid in reservoir 10) is reduced. Resealing of a further container allows the unsealing of the suction tube 19.
