Biological purificn. of waste water by aeration - using partly immersed rotor fitted with open ended tube bundles

The treatment plant is of the type in which a partly-immersed rotor cuts through the surface of the water as it turns on a horizontal shaft. The rotor comprises a horizontal drive shaft with attached aerating units each made up of a bundle of open-ended tubes which are parallel to each other as well as to the drive shaft. The rotor pref. comprises several sets of interchangeable tube bundles spaced axially along the drive shaft. Each tube bundle comprises a tube arrangement which is pref. triangular in cross-section, more partic. in the form of a right-angled, isosceles triangle. Each set of tube bundles is pref. mounted in a frame, e.g. a set of four bundles arranged in diagonally partitioned corners of a square frame. The plant is used in the treatment of industrial waste waters by aeration as the tubes are alternately immersed and flooded and then aised and emptied during rotation of the rotor. The rotor is simple in design and easy and inexpensive to make. It provides highly efficient aeration and can be readily adapted for any capacity by varying the number of sets of bundles on a shaft and/or the number of bundles in a set and/or the number of tubes in a bundle.
