The float actuated valve is for installation on underground petrol tank filler tubes and closes automatically. The float (8) and the valve (9) are mounted on separate rocking levers (12,14,17) and are entrained by pins (31,19) in slots (32,28) in a further rocking lever (30) and a pivoting counter-weight (25) resp. As the petrol level rises so does the float (8) and the lever (12). The lever (12) engages the stop (19), pivots lever (14,17), and so causes the valve (9) to drop on to its seat to effect closure. The cup (21) fills with petrol bleeding from conduit (22). The additional weight causes the valve to lift off its seat.
