Thermally stable carborane-contg. polyimine soluble in organic solvent - used partic. to make films, varnishes, coatings, adhesives and cellular and composite materials
New polyimine is of formula H2 N-Ar-N=CH-carborane-CH= nO (I). In the formula, Ar is a divaltn aromatic radical, carboxylic or heterocyclic, the two valencies of which are situated on distinct C atoms; the carborane chain is a divalent radical derived from 1,7-dicarba-closo-dodecarborane-12, or 1,12-decarba-closo-dodecarborane-12, the two valencies of which are situated on the two C atoms; and n has an average value of 5-1000. (I) is used to make films, varnishes, coatings, adhesives and cellular and composite materials. It is stable to heat, and is soluble in many organic solvents, cf. prior insol. aromatic polyimines.
