An automatically extinguishable circuit breaker has a screen of insulating material (30) with holes which limit the flow of the extinguishing gas around the coaxial tubular contacts. The section of the passage of extinguishing gas across the screen towards the isolated contacts increases with the isolation of the contacts, and reaches a maximum in the position of extinction. The contacts are separated by sliding axially and a blowing nozzle coaxially surrounds the contacts. The screen is in the form of a sleeve (20) surrounding the contacts and extends along the ehight of the contacts in the position of extinction.
