The machine comprises a transverse member (1) having side plates (3) between which a tool carrying shaft is mounted in bearings. The shaft is driven from the tractor power take off via a gearbox (5). Groups of tools are secured by bolts to brackets (6) on the shaft. Successive blades are closely spaced along the shaft and the blades of each group are angularly spaced by about 60 deg.. The angular spacing between the last blade of each group and the first blade of the next group is slightly less than 60 deg.. Each blade has a pointed cutting edge. Different blades may be used for working light and heavy soils.
