The seal is for a union between pipes handling a hot mediu, where a parallel end fits in a bell-mouthed one, leaving a space between for a sealing ring. A central section of the ring runs at right angles to the pipe axis, while the end sections are pressed against the end of the parallel pipe and the largest-diameter portion of the bell-mouth. The ring is of flexible plastic, with high resistance to repeated bending loads and high temps., pref. polyperfluoralkoxy resin. Its outer edge can be clamped in the axial direction between an annular spigot at the bell-mouth end and one on an annular mating flange pressed against the mouth end.
