Pure protein(s) prodn. from milk and milk products - by extraction using anion exchange resin and silica and sepg. fractions, used in food, dietetic, pharmaceutical and veterinary compsns.
Process comprises firstly extracting the proteins other than casein by contacting skimmed milk successively with =1 anion exchange resin then silica or vice versa, followed by elution of the proteins. The casein remaining in soln. is then sepd. from mineral salts and lactose. In a process variation the proteins are extracted from lactoserum at a pH 4. In another variation, the lactose and mineral salts are first sepd. by ultra filtration or chromatography. The anion exchange resins pref. comprise a silica or aluminium support coated with 20 mg/m2 of a cross-linked polymer film contg. tert. amine functional gps. or quat ammonium gps. of formula -CH2-N(R)-CH2 or -CH2N plus or minus (R)3X- where R is 1-4C (hydroxy)alkyl and X is an anion, with an exchange capacity 2 meq/g. specified polymers include epoxide cross linked with polyamines.
