The distributor comprises apparatus for moving the snails, apparatus for separating them and for transport of the separated snails. The separator comprises a container in the form of a funnel. The snails pass from a hopper (29) to a vibrating table (28) which carries them to a rotating drum (14). The drum has blades extending inwardly from its periphery. These carry the snails to an elongated funnel shaped separator (21) through the neck of which they drop to a chain conveyor (26). The separated snails are removed by a belt conveyor (9).
