An oscillator based system is used for the operating system of traffic lights. The unit is used as a separate control for a number of lights that are required to operate in a 'rear' synchronous mode. This avoids the use of long lines when operating with truly synchronous systems. A high stability quartz crystal oscillator operates into a divider and a number of counter stages provide signals over a delay to drive an amplifier operating the traffic lights. A number of such units may be operated with lights on a common stretch of highcomy without undue loss of synchronism.
