The central heating heat exchanger using steam has a plate (2, 3) each end, between which is supported a tube (1) carrying the spirally wound heat exchanger tubes. These terminate in an entry (16) and discharge (20) chamber, on the outside of the plates (2, 3). The tubes are enclosed by a shorter cylinder (4) with its ends communicating with steam inlet (6) and outlet (7) chambers. Each tube of the tube bundle wound between the tube (1) and the cylinder (4) has a loop extending for about 4/5 of its complete length, between a hole in the air inlet chamber (16) inner plate (3) and the start of the coil.
