A boiler (1) contg. material under test is electrically heated, and a temp. sensor monitor the compsn. A condenser in the boiler column (2) is cooled by circulation of refrigerant and another temp. sensor permits indication of temp. at head of column. Two valves and a pressure gauge are connected to a vacuum pump to permit operation for distillation at atmospheric pressure. A microprocessor provides automatic control to allow distillate to drain to reservoir when stability terminates.
